Solution focused hypnotherapy, creative hypnotherapy and hypnoanalysis
I offer hypnotherapy in Bristol, working from quiet, confidential therapy rooms in Clifton and Westbury-on-Trym, as well as online.
Your well-being, trust and feelings of security are paramount. I believe firmly that hypnotherapy, in all forms, can significantly help people gain new perspectives on their lives and how they see and relate to themselves, other people and their place in the world.
Hypnotherapy can be an extremely helpful and holistic way of treating the individual. As a talking therapy, it is about exploring and understanding what drives that unique person to think, feel and behave in ways that have been unhelpful to them, both in their past and present experiences of life.
It is only then that we can start to take action and take back control using a variety of techniques and approaches through hypnosis.
We treat the whole person
Hypnotherapy can support people with a wide range of emotional, psychological and behavioural difficulties. These may include anxiety, habits, low mood, anger, PTSD, insomnia and sleeping difficulties, IBS, pain management, sexual dysfunction, weight management, self-esteem and performance-related anxiety.
My work is based on a creative, humanistic and integrative approach. This means that your free agency and inherent abilities are encouraged, and we can draw upon different theoretical techniques at appropriate times within our work together.
Everybody wanting to engage in therapy is treated as an individual. The work is tailored to your specific needs, creating a unique and bespoke course of therapy based on what feels most helpful to you.
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy combines talking therapy with hypnosis. Hypnosis, or trance, is a very natural and relaxing state, encouraged by guided relaxation, where the mind can relax and focus on thoughts and suggestions that may be useful.
You remain in control during hypnosis. It is not sleep, and it is not something being “done to you”. Instead, it is a focused therapeutic state that can support reflection, change and a different relationship with thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
Solution focused hypnotherapy
Solution focused hypnotherapy is a type of talking therapy that combines psychotherapy with hypnosis.
As a modern psychotherapeutic approach, solution focused hypnotherapy uses practical, structured and well-researched strategies to help people make significant and positive changes, often in a relatively short period of time.
Crucially, in solution focused hypnotherapy, we look at what you want to achieve — the solution — rather than focusing only on whatever prompted you to seek help.
This approach can be helpful if you want to build confidence, reduce anxiety, improve motivation, change unhelpful habits or move towards a clearer sense of control.
Creative hypnotherapy and hypnoanalysis
Creative hypnotherapy and hypnoanalysis can involve delving deeper into past events to identify significant causes of current issues.
The idea of this way of working is to unravel psychic, stressful and traumatic experience in a creative way, using imagery, symbolism and expression to support understanding and healing.
This approach may include Gestalt role play, parts therapy, drawing, painting, creative writing, letter writing, regression and inner-child methodology.
It is not necessary for you to be skilled at drawing or art in general. An enthusiasm for making positive changes through alternative and dynamic ways of working is all that is required.
What happens next?
It is understandable to have doubts, preconceptions or apprehension towards things that are unfamiliar.
The first step is a free telephone consultation, followed by an initial in-person consultation if you decide to begin. This gives us a chance to get to know each other, for you to get used to some hypnotherapy techniques, and to explore a little more about what is bringing you to therapy.
From there, we can decide together whether solution focused hypnotherapy, creative hypnotherapy, hypnoanalysis, counselling, or a combination of therapeutic approaches feels most appropriate.
